Notes from Town Square: The River Festival is coming

There is still time to enjoy some great summer events.

One of those is the 15th annual River Festival. This event, complemented with the Art on the Green, brings in people from all over the country. Some of the weekend highlights are the 13th annual “Run with the Horses Marathon,” with multiple races including a full marathon, half marathon and a 10k. Other events are the now-famous Cajun Shrimp Boil Friday night and the Rubber Duck Race that ends in a photo finish under the island bridge. There will be a multitude of craft vendors on site so enjoy a walk around the Island and shop for some unique items like pottery, salsa, art, and much more. Sip on an ice cold micro-brew while you listen to the local band, the B Sharps, and enjoy fireworks at dark, which are always a crowd pleaser.

On Saturday you can go on a “River Walk” along the green belt with the Seedskadee Trout Unlimited Chapter and learn about river safety, casting, watch bird netting and more.

You can also check out the car and motorcycle show or watch or participate in the dog fetching competition and Dog Show put on by the Red Desert Humane Society. Saturday, grab a hamburger from Arctic Circle and funnel cake from Staci Ann’s who will both be serving food on the island. Let the kids enjoy a snow cone from the Snak Shak and take in the tunes from the blues band in concert “Eef and the Blues Express.”

This family friendly event is hosted by the Green River Chamber, a non-profit organization that works all year long to produce a quality event that lasts throughout the weekend. The River Festival committee is comprised of 13 amazing volunteers from different organizations throughout the area.

Come out and enjoy what your community has to offer this weekend with friends and family. And if you run into someone that isn’t from around here, make sure to say hello and thank them for spending time in our great city.
