Janice Doser

Janice Doser passed away at her home surrounded by her family June 5, 2016 due to complications from a long illness.  

Doser was born in Yankton, S.D., Nov. 27, 1941 to Harold Henry Sonnenfield and Loretta Agnes Engle Sonnenfield. She spent almost all her childhood in Sioux Falls, S.D. Having been educated in Catholic parochial schools she graduated from Cathedral High and entered St. Theresa's College located in Winona, Minn. to study nursing under Franciscan nuns. After one year her curriculum required her to transfer to nearby Rochester, Minn. to complete her studies at a large hospital known as St. Mary's where she studied psychiatry.

After graduating with a BS degree on May 1963, she stayed on at St. Mary's for another six years as a psychiatric nurse. She married Robert Doser at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Sioux Falls, Aug. 23, 1969. After the honeymoon she and Robert left for Salt Lake City h where he studied post graduate mathematics at the University of Utah. During this time she worked as an instructor from 1969-1972 in the University of Utah School of Nursing, and then returning to La Crosse, Wisc. where her husband was employed as a mathematics instructor at the University of Wisconsin. While there, she worked as an instructor in nursing at Viterbo, a Catholic College.

At Viterbo she met and knew the famous Sr. Thea Bowman, now a possible candidate for sainthood. In 1976 she and her husband moved to Rock Springs where he began working for Stauffer Chemical. She was asked along with another nurse to help set up a degreed nursing program at Western Wyoming Community College. After finishing work at the college, she took employment with Public Health for a time, then SWRC and later Community Nursing.

Her interests were PEO, Council of Catholic Women, church related activities, crafts, knitting, reading, helping others in her nursing work, camping, travel, and genealogy plus being with her family and socializing.

Janice is survived by her husband Robert; her three sons, Andrew Doser (Marisol), James Doser (Keely), and Thomas Doser (Jennifer); two daughters, Laura Brown (Murray), Sara Dunkin (Justin); six grandchildren; four nieces; and brother-in-law, Richard Doser. Preceding her in death were her father Harold, her mother Loretta, and her brother John Sonnenfield.

A mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Rock Springs. A vigil service with rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.  Friends may call at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the rosary and on Friday at the church one hour prior to services.
