Locals place at CrossFit games

Area residents represented Sweetwater County well during the Festivus Games hosted by Flaming Gorge CrossFit.

The games, hosted on April 16, featured a number of scored CrossFit workouts, including weightlifting routines, burpies and cardio workouts. The event also attracted CrossFit enthusiasts from throughout Wyoming and Utah and the gyms competing sold out, with 60 athletes participating in the event.

For many, it was their first CrossFit competition.

“Many of the athletes had been doing CrossFit for a few months and were shocked they were not only able to successfully finish each workout, but that they were successfully competing against other gyms,” Eric F. Phillips, a representative from Flaming Gorge CrossFit, said. “I was extremely proud of them.”

Among the athletes from Sweetwater County competing, Patricia Stickney took first in female novice, Green River High School volleyball coach Rikki Shantz took first in female intermediate, Kasey Werkele took first in men’s masters and Kristopher Jackson took second in men’s novice.
