City replaces trees near east entrance

Residents dismayed about the sudden loss of trees throughout Green River can take solace in replanting efforts recently conducted near the east entrance to the city.

Friday, volunteers and city employees planted a number of trees in the field near the Uinta Dirve overpass. Trees in that area, as well as other parts of the city, died last year after the city mistakenly applied an herbicidal chemical to the trees.

Misty Springer, grants administrator for the city, said the grant totals $4,000 and was initially applied for before trees throughout Green River started dying.

The areas will also see another round of improvements and landscaping as a result of a $7,000 grant from the Wyoming Department of Transportation. Springer said the city isn't sure when the work will take place, and could start as late as autumn.
