Spring tennis starts season in Cody

Prepares for matches in Casper

As the snow melts away and winter turns to spring, Green River High School's tennis players are stepping onto the court for the first time this year.

While spring tennis doesn't culminate with a regional or state tournament like the fall season, the sport is still sanctioned by the Wyoming High School Athletics Association.

The Wolves traveled to a round-robin competition in Cody last weekend, which featured teams from Powell and Sheridan in addition to the Cody squad.

Head tennis coach Phil Harder said the competition allowed the team to have a great practice before the more serious competitions take place later in the season. In Cody, the competition was more geared towards giving players the opportunity to play as many matches as possible. Results from the matches weren't recorded.

The team has 20 members, though a number of fall regulars participate in soccer.

The team will travel to Casper for competition in two weeks and will host Riverton, April 29. The team will play in Oil City again May 7.
