Many attend Friday's Easter Carnival at CRRC

Highway 530 was lined with cars on both sides of it Friday morning as nearby parking lots quickly filled up.

All of this unusual traffic was in response to the Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center's Easter Carnival.

Inside, the building was bustling with children and their parents participating in numerous games, crafts and activities.

Resident Richard Watson was busy greeting visitors as they entered the building. He was also selling raffle tickets to those who wanted a chance to win one of numerous baskets or a children's bike.

Watson looks forward to this event every year.

"I like talking to the kids," Watson said. "I like kids, so it's kind of a treat."

The craft room was also quite the scene, as Jeanette Palmer and Kathy Elliott, craft volunteers, were showing children how to make bunny headbands and decorate foam eggs.

Palmer thought the CRRC residents were really enjoying the event; and she liked how visitors could visit with the residents and see them in their home.

"I think it's good for the residents to see the kids," she said.

When children were not busy making crafts or playing games, they were trying their luck at the cake walk. During this popular game, participants were asked to walk around in a circle until the music stopped. Once the music stopped, they would stand on the nearest number, which ranged from one to 20. A number was drawn from a cup and called out. Whoever was on that number, won a cupcake or cake. They got to pick one. Children and adults alike were excited about this event.

Children also had the chance to meet the Easter Bunny and have their photo taken with the bunny.

CRRC residents were throughout the building either helping out with events or watching them. Others were just happy to see all of the children and parents coming through.
