Wrestlers dominate in Rock Springs

The Green River High School wrestling team is a dominating team.

GRHS varsity and junior varsity wrestling teams beat both Rock Springs High School teams.

In varsity, Green River won 54 to 15.

Individual Green River varsity wrestlers taking home the win were, Cyro Montoya, Caleb Nathan, Jacob Mortensen, Kaycee Cochrane, Ira Dickinson, Eric Clingenpeel, Shandon Welsh, Dylan VanGieson and Brendan Hopkins.

"I feel we wrestled much better than we have the past few weeks," head wrestling coach Marshall Rhodes said.

"We were able to turn a couple of matches around from the last dual and that is a great sign."

The scores in the matches against RSHS for junior varsity also ended with a landslide victory for Green River, with the dual ending 49-6 in favor of the Wolves.

Individual junior varsity winning wrestlers were, Justin Flores, Talbert Bowen, Garrett Harris, Brett McKeehan, Zack Orr, Chance Anderson, Russell Ferrell, Dominik Kobe and Devon VanValkenburg.

Rhodes said all of the wrestlers have been working hard in the past weeks to come to this point. They've worked on their conditioning; and are in the shape they need to be in now.

Something wrestlers have struggled with before, excelling even when on the bottom during the match, the wrestlers has improved on. Wrestling well on the bottom is a must, coming into the final stretch of the season.

"We are looking forward to the regional tournament and I feel we will wrestle better than we have all year," he said. "We are ready to compete for a regional and state title."
