Wolves will face Cheyenne South, Laramie again

After a tough, trying few games this past weekend on the east side of the state, the Green River High School varsity boys basketball team will turn around and take them on again, at home.

The boys will take Cheyenne South on with a game Friday at 7:30 p.m., and will play against Laramie on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Both games will be hosted at the Lincoln Middle School gymnasium.

GRHS put up a fight against the east side teams this weekend, but came away with three losses against Cheyenne South, Sheridan, and Laramie.

Their first game of the weekend was against Cheyenne South, Thursday. Green River lost, 33-68.

“I felt like we were intimidated before the game even started,” head coach Laurie Ivie said. “They’re a team full of seniors and they’re big and they’re athletic. They’re extremely athletic.”

Ivie said they ended up making a lot of turnovers, and fell into the tempo that Cheyenne wanted them to play.

It didn’t resemble what Green River wanted it to look like.

“We just didn’t play our game,” she said.

The next two games against Sheridan and Laramie resulted in losses as well. The Sheridan game ended 36-49, and Laramie with 55-73. Ivie said those losses were due to slow starts.

“We ended up losing by 18. The second half of the game was probably our best half of the basketball game,” Ivie said.

She said they had to dig their way out the second half of the Laramie game, but it wasn’t close enough in the end.

She said an up and coming player that scored a chunk of the points for the team in those games was sophomore Devin Love.

He scored 17 points in the game against Cheyenne South, 18 points against Sheridan, and 23 points in the game against Laramie.

“He’s dependable on all aspects of the game,” Ivie said.

To make the difference facing Cheyenne and Laramie again this weekend, Ivie said their goals are starting the games ready to go, and consistency.

“We have a lot of spurts of really good, and then we have a minute or two where we make some mistakes.”
