Anna Jo "Jodye" Wilmes

Anna Jo "Jodye" Wilmes, 62, of Rock Springs passed away Sept. 28, 2015 following a fast battle with cancer.

She was born on June 29, 1953 in Sheridan, the daughter of Joseph A. and D. Jean Shassetz. She grew up in Sheridan, attending Woodland Park School and Sheridan High School.

After graduating in 1971, she attended college at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont., receiving a bachelors degree in nursing in 1975.

She worked initially at the VA Hospital in Sheridan, then at the Public Health Office in Sheridan until 1986.  At that time she took a position at the Public Health Office in Rock Springs and continued to work for the State of Wyoming until her retirement on July 2, 2015.

She married Deryle Wilmes on May 17, 1975. They lived in Sheridan and Ranchester, and then Rock Springs.

Wilmes was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community.

Her interests were spending time in the mountains, playing golf, traveling, her pets and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Deryle Wilmes of Rock Springs; son Tony Wilmes and wife LizAnn of Post Falls, Idaho; two daughters Kathy Spory of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Lisa Wilmes of Columbia, Tenn .; her mother D. Jean Smith of Sheridan; sister Andrea Garner and husband Ron of Tetonia, Idaho; brother Jim Shassetz and wife Jennifer of Sheridan; five grandchildren; one aunt, Betty Shassetz; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Joe Shassetz; brother Mike Shassetz; one uncle Lindy Shassetz; grandparents Andrew and Anna Shassetz and Ted and Florence Dorothy.

Cremation will take place and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 633 Bridger Avenue, Rock Springs.  A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Thursday at the church.  Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the rosary and one hour prior to the funeral services.  Her ashes will be inurned at the Sheridan Cemetery with her grandparents at a later date.
