Tennis team heating up for Regionals

With a few matches under their belts this year, the GRHS Varsity Tennis players are heating up. The girls have improved in matches won, and boys are keeping up a consistent match win.

A couple of the girls teams have been switched around, which have made them stronger, tennis coach Phil Harder said, they are picking up some runs.

“Our boys are coming on really nice. They’ve been getting some quality wins these last two weeks specifically,” Harder said.

All of the teams, singles and doubles, Harder said are getting better. They are listening to what they need to do to become better. The varsity boys have won the last five matches, putting to use what they’ve learned in practice.

“Hopefully we can continue to improve and start peaking at Regionals and State because that’s when it matters,” Harder said. “The wins that they get now go towards their seating for regionals, so that’s important. It’s important to win these matches now.”

The high school Varsity Tennis Regionals is Friday and Saturday, at the GRHS tennis courts.

High schools competing in the tennis regionals are Green River, Rock Springs, Rawlins, Laramie, Torrington, Cheyenne East, Cheyenne Central, and Cheyenne South.

“They’re all good teams. It’ll be fun to see how we do this weekend,” Harder said. “They’re (GRHS) improving, but we still got some work to do.”
