Kids enjoy end of summer activities

With Green River kids already a week into the school year, many of Green River’s parks appear less visited in the evenings than they were over the summer.

However, one girl was making use of the Splash Park at Evers Park Tuesday, getting some water fun in before the park is shut off for the winter.

Savannah Martinez played at the park as family members enjoyed the early evening weather at the park.

More children were at the Sweetwater County Library Tuesday night, utilizing the library for entertainment. Maddie Wilson stood in line with a large stack of books, waiting for Youth Services Librarian Becky Iwen to check out her books. Both Maddie and her brother, Billy, planned to check books out from the library that evening, but for Maddie, reading is a passion.

“I like to read books a lot,” she said.

She said she enjoys young adult novels, especially “The Maze Runner” series by James Dashner.

Smaller children were at the library as well. Zayla Martinez, a one-and-half-year-old toddler, was playing with her mom, Morgan, in the kids area.

Zayla enjoyed playing with small wooden cars, as well as attempting to place them in her mouth, something Morgan was very vigilant in preventing.

“We’re here at least twice a week,” Morgan said. “We get her movies; and books and let her play.”
