Preschool offers open enrollment

Open enrollment is happening now at the Sweetwater County Child Developmental Center.

Preschool classes are filling up fast. The SCCDC is ready to enroll all kids three to five years old for fall classes in Rock Springs and Green River, but spots are limited.

Preschool classes start Aug. 31. Classes are offered Monday through Thursday with children having the opportunity to attend either the morning or afternoon classes. Transportation is also available based on the need of the student. The SCCDC offers two programs for children ages three to five years old. The “Preschool Program” and “Preschool Plus Program.”

The “Preschool Program” is for any child between the ages of three and five. Children are considered preschool age on their third birthday and can attend a SCCDC preschool for a monthly fee once they reach age three. Preschoolers may attend the SCCDC based on a sliding fee scale.

The second program is “Preschool Plus.” Preschool Plus students are those who have an active IEP (Individualized Education Plan) as identified through a screening and/or evaluation in any area are considered “Preschool Plus.” Children who have an active IEP receive all services free of charge in compliance with IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).

The SCCDC implements curriculum which is developmentally appropriate, research-based, and focuses on the whole child. The curriculum includes the following areas: social-emotional, motor skills, language, literacy, math, science, and technology. Daily lessons are organized and planned by a teaching team that focuses on experiences that help young children to develop the skills they will need to be successful in kindergarten.

All preschool classrooms are instructed by an early childhood educator or early childhood special educator who has a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education or related field and is certified by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board.
