Cinderella receives laughs

A tale of what can go wrong took the stage last week.

Students from Lincoln Middle School performed "Cinderella and the Substitute Fairy Godmother" on Friday and Saturday night. Saturday night's performance was well attended and the audience laughed during the comedic play.

This play was written by Ed Monk and is meant to be the story of what would happen if Cinderella had a substitute fairy godmother.

The play starts with fairy godmothers planning a party. They were excited about it and couldn't wait to have fun. Later in the play, the fairy godmothers return to the office sick. They have food poisoning from the potato salad they ate. One of the fairies admitted that she may have left the five-gallon bucket of salad out in the heat a little too long.

When Cinderella calls for her fairy godmother, they are in a panic. They have no choice but to call in a substitute.

The substitute, who tries to keep selling everyone scented candles, tries her best to complete the spells, but they are not turing out right.

She admits that the last time she had to perform spells she turned Pinocchio into a yak instead of a real boy.

After she casts one spell, three little pigs show up instead of mice for the carriage. When she tries to make Cinderella a dress, the big bad wolf arrives in a grandmother's dress. Everything keeps getting worse and worse.

Soon, Cinderella has no choice but to wear the wolf's grandmother dress, the substitute fairy godmother's eccentric boots and take a taxi to the ball.

When Cinderella meets Prince Charmfull, who likes to build model trains that do not even exist yet, at first she is not impressed.

However, after talking Cinderella mentions that she has had a rough day because she found out her step mother is going to purchase 100 lamas for her to take care of. The prince, who loves lamas is instantly interested and soon they seem to hit it off. When Cinderella is about to tell the Prince her name, the clock sounds that it is midnight and so she leaves.

Cinderella arrives home to find the three pigs and the wolf at her house, soon her step sisters and step mother arrive. When the substitute fairy godmother tries to put things back to normal a witch and Pinocchio arrive, who still remembers being turned into a yak.

The substitute fairy godmother then realizes Cinderella has returned with both boots. She asks her why she didn't leave one behind like she was supposed to so the prince could find her. At this point, Cinderella looses it and shouts "Because you never told me."

As everyone starts arguing, there is a knock at the door. It is the prince. He told Cinderella he just called the cab company she used to find her. They decide to get married and he orders the step mother and step sisters to provide him with 50 pounds of lama cheese each week because he is very fond of it.

They play ended with them leaving and the step sisters and mother arguing.
