Vera Lewis

Vera Lewis, 88, of Green River passed away at the Mission at Castle Rock March 28, 2015. A long time resident of Green River, Lewis died following a lengthy illness.

She was born on April 21, 1926 in Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Oberreuter.

Lewis attended schools in Danbury and was a graduate of the Danbury Catholic High School.

She married Edward Oscar Lewis in Green River on Nov. 20, 1946.

Lewis was employed as a telegrapher for the Union Pacific Railroad for more than 40 years and retired in 1985.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic Minister at the church as well as the homebound.

Lewis was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County and for Hospice of Sweetwater County.  

Her interests included gardening and crafts.  She also enjoyed spending time at their cabin with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband Edward O. Lewis of Green River; one son, Paul Lewis and wife June of Green River; one daughter, Janice Lewis of Green River; one grandson, Scott Lewis of Green River; one great-grandson, Jakob Lewis of Green River.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers; five sisters.

Following cremation, a mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. April 7 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 900 Hitching Post Drive in Green River. A vigil service with rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. April 6, 2015 at the church. Inurnment will be in the Riverview Columbarium. Friends may call on Monday at the church one hour prior to the rosary and on Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to services.
