Hooded bandit sought

A late-morning holdup at a rest area east of Rock Springs has the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office seeking the unidentified bandit.

According to a release from the sheriff’s office, William Hall, a truck driver from Mississippi had parked at the Bitter Creek Rest Area about 40 miles east of Rock Springs when he was robbed at gunpoint at about 10 a.m. March 20. The man, described as white and appearing in his early 20s, wore a dark blue pullover jacket or hoodie with letters “UA” in gold on the back and demanded Hall hand over his wallet. The wallet contained $117.

Hall then told investigators the man drove westbound in a dark brown, mid-1980s Ford Ranger pickup with no rear license plate and no tailgate.

Investigators believe the suspect might be a local resident and asks anyone with information on the suspect or vehicle to contact the sheriff’s office or local police department. Those with information can provide it anonymously.
