County assessment schedules coming in next few days

County residents will be receiving their 2015 assessment schedules from the Sweetwater County Assessor’s Office within the next few days.

The schedules are the basis for the property taxes that will be mailed in September.

According to a release from the assessor’s office, the value of the property is determined by sales information collected throughout the last year. The release states residential property information showed an increase in sales prices by approximately 4 percent overall. Commercial properties also showed an increased and new construction and remodeling work done on major buildings added to the county’s total valuation as well.

Industrial values continue to be the largest contributor to the county valuation, accounting for approximately 89 percent of the county’s value. Natural gas is expected to be higher this year, but due to the decrease in oil and natural gas at the end of the year, the 2016 valuation is expected to decrease. The mineral valuation will be delivered to the assessor’s office in June.

Anyone with questions regarding their assessment schedule can contact the assessor’s office at 872-3700 or stop by the Sweetwater County Courthouse.
