Christine R. Confer

Christine R. Confer, 86, of Rock Springs, passed away Oct. 9 at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City. She had been a longtime resident of Rock Springs.

She was born on Nov. 24, 1927 in Lock Haven, Penn., the daughter of the late Christian Randecker and Annabell Rokenbrod.

Confer attended schools in Lock Haven, Penn. and graduated from the Lock Haven High School with the class of 1945.

She married Thomas Blair Confer, Sr. in Lock Haven on June 8, 1951 and he passed away in Salt Lake City on Aug. 6, 2007.

Confer was employed as a teacher's aide for Sweetwater School District No. 1 for many years. She had also worked at Home Petroleum for five years as a secretary.

She was a member of First Congregational Church and the church women's group, a member of Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed traveling the state to their functions.  Confer was a member of the Rock Springs Women's Club, Red Hatters, and "Tuesday Dinner Club." She also served as an election judge.

She served on many community boards in Sweetwater County.

Her most important interest were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed traveling to the events that the children participated in.

Survivors include four sons, Thomas B. Confer, Jr. of Rock Springs, Robert W. Confer and wife Melissa of Riverton, Richard E. Confer and wife Michelle of Rock Springs, and Kenneth J. Confer of Rock Springs; one daughter, Cheryl Ann Confer of Rock Springs; three sisters, Anna Mapstone and husband Ron of Lock Haven, Penn., Gloria Ely and husband Dean of Jersey Shore, Penn. and Margaret Englert of Lewisburg, Penn.; two brothers, Charles Randecker and Jim Randecker and wife Barbara, all of Lewisburg, Penn.; eleven grandchildren Sarah and husband Elmer, H, Roby and wife Kristy, Braxton, Kendi, Jerry, Michael and Jimmy; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Tom, her sister Caroline Umstead,her daughter-in-law Diana Confer.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church in Rock Springs. Interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Vase Chapel on Thursday afternoon from 4-6 p.m. and on Friday morning at the church one hour prior to services.

The family of Christine R. Confer will be receiving family and friends at her home 1805 Carson Street in Rock Springs.
