Fisherman's body found

The body of a 69-year-old fisherman who search and rescue volunteers have searched for since the beginning of the month was recently recovered.

The fisherman from Riverton, Utah, Charles Darrell Thomas, was missing after an inflatable boat he and his 62-year-old girlfriend were sharing capsized on the Flaming Gorge Resevoir.

The Daggett County Sheriff’s Office in Daggett County, Utah reported his body was at 5:40 p.m. using side scan sonar. Using a remote operated vehicle, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office was able to confirm the location of the boat and Thomas.

He was found one mile from the Lucerne Marina shore and close to the Antelope Flats shore. The body was at a depth of 194 feet.

According to press releases from the sheriff’s office, they were notified of a capsized boat at about 4 p.m. Sept. 1.

The unidentified woman reporting that their small boat sank during a trip from the Antelope Flats area to Lucerne Marina.
