Body found near Wamsutter

The body of a missing woman from Illinois was recovered last week, according to a press release from the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office.

The body of 28-year-old Teresa Withers was found at Barrel Springs Draw Wednesday morning by members of Sweetwater County Search and Rescue. According to the release, Withers died as a result of exposure and hypothermia, with Sweetwater Coroner Dale Majhanovich commenting that evidence of any foul play was not evident at the location of Withers’ body. An autopsy took place Sept. 11.

According to the press release, a man identified as as 28-year-old Mitchell T. Wiley of Glaesburg, Ill. was found wandering on foot and alone along Delaney Rim Road, approximately 11 miles south of Red Desert Sept. 7. Deputies sent to the scene said Wiley appeared to be confused, disoriented and partially coherent, with little idea of where he was or how he came to be where he was.

Wiley was sent to the Carbon County Memorial Hospital and admitted. Wiley’s relatives were contacted and said he was recently in Nevada visiting his father. A description for his 208 Dodge Charger was sent to law enforcement throughout the area. Last Monday, the vehicle was found by two Wyoming Game and Fish officials 17 miles south of Wamsutter, stuck and with a flat tire.

Information deputies were able to gather indicated Withers was accompanying him during this trip. Wiley, while still at the hospital, said he and Withers had gotten lost and the two tried to walk out of the area. Withers injured her ankle more than half a mile from the vehicle and was unable to continue walking. Wiley said the two decided he should go on to get help.
