An employee at the Shopko Hometown store employee got a shock Sunday morning when she saw a mountain lion between the store and the Grace Tabernacle Church. The Green River Police Department responded to the call, but were unable to locate the animal, however possible mountain lion tracks were found around Stratton Myers Park. Det. Cpl. After 30 years and two months, GRPD Sgt. Dan Friebel is putting aside his badge and officer uniform and donning his fishing pole and boating gear once again. The City of Green River’s budget for the fiscal year of 2015 is $21.7 million, compared to last year’s budget, which was 21 million. “It went up $700,000 in total mostly due to a couple specific projects,” Green River’s director of finance, Chris Meats said. The general fund itself went down about $200,000, while the capital projects fund went up $900,000, making a net increase in the total budget around $700,000. Green River City Council approved a nearly $22.8 million budget Tuesday night. This is the same amount approved as last year. As the budget remains the same for Green River, city fees are on the rise. “As costs go up normally we did small increases to cover those costs,” City Administrator Reed Clevenger said. Water, sewer and waste fees have been raised two percent. Among the sewer fees raised, monthly residential sewer user fees were raised 30 cents, from $16.61 to $16.94. Three years ago, Sweetwater County School District No. 2 received a federal PEP grant totaling $662,000 towards improving physical activity within the district. A single-vehicle crash Sunday evening resulted in damage to the railing near the South Fourth West Street underpass and a man being arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
