Wolves soccer team continues winning streak, ranked 2nd in 3A West

The Green River Wolves Boys Soccer team had a great weekend of ball. On Friday, the Wolves traveled for a conference game and played the Lyman Eagles.

"It was a challenge for us because the field was so narrow," said Head Coach Josh Webb. "It really messed with our possession. And it was still wet and not very firm so that was another challenge."

Coach Webb said the boys came out kind of slow and could have played better, but with the challenging conditions he is proud of them and they came out on top.

Leading the team was Stone Rubeck and Izyk Arellano with one goal each, along with Braxton Cordova with two assists. Goalie Eduardo Zarate had six saves during the game.

Green River won the conference game with a final score of 2-1.

On Saturday, the Wolves dominated the Mountain View Buffalos during the away conference game with a final score of 4-0. Leading the team was Guy Grace with two goals, along with Braxton Cordova and Jaxxson Gomez with one goal each. Guy Grace also had two assists, Stone Rubeck had one assist and Eddie Zarate had one save during the game.

"We started with a better warmup and really got the boys going," explained Coach Webb. "They had a really good game and possessed the ball a lot, got a lot more opportunities on goal because of the possession, and it was a great game to watch."

The Wolves are still working hard during practices and working on different offensive and defensive moves.

Coach Webb says the team captains have brought a lot to the team. The team voted Braxton Cordova and AB Vergara to lead the team this year, and they have been the heart of the team.

"This is a talented team," added Coach Webb. "They have the ability to score a lot more goals."

The Wolves have a busy schedule this week with three home games. They play against Lyman on Friday, Mountain View on Saturday and Lander on Tuesday. Come and support the Wolves as they strive to continue their winning streak.

The Wolves are sitting second in the 3A West Conference with a 5-1 record this season. If they continue winning games, they will make their way to the State Championships that take place May 18-20 in Green River.
