Lady Wolves take down Rock Springs and Kelly Walsh

Excitement filled the air as the Lady Wolves stepped out on the court last Thursday. It's always an edge-of-the-seat kind of game when Green River gets to play Rock Springs at home, and the bleachers were filled with fans cheering for the teams.

The Lady Wolves took the lead in the first quarter 13-4, while the second quarter tightened up the scoreboard with Rock Springs scoring 14 points to Green River's 12. The third quarter was intense - Rock Springs scored 11 points while Green River only scored 10. By the final quarter, the Lady Wolves pulled ahead of the Lady Tigers, scoring 14 points to their 10, ending the game with a victory for Green River, 49-40.

"We played with a lot of energy and defensively we played pretty well," said Head Coach Rick Carroll. "I think we surprised them."

As a team, the Lady Wolves are learning how to play more relaxed, and when you play relaxed, you play better. The points are being spread out to different players and the team is coming together. There were two players that really stepped up for the team: Isabel Vasco and Addison Demaret.

"They had a really good game," said Coach Carroll. "Offensively they really carried the team and shot 100% at the free throw line, so that was kind of cool."

The ladies did a great job of rebounding during the game. They gave up some offensive rebounds but at the same time they gained a lot of defensive rebounds.

Leading the team was Freshman Isabel Vasco with an outstanding 21 points, followed by Addison Demaret with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Jayla Braden and Ella Stanton both had four assists, followed by Braden with five steals.

On Saturday, the Lady Wolves played another intense game against the Kelly Walsh Trojans. Green River started out a little slow and the scoreboard was tight at the beginning, but by the second quarter they had a big lead. Scoring 22 points in just the second quarter gave Green River the edge.

Green River was pressing the Trojans and steadily making them turn the ball over.

"We have taken the ball from a lot of teams but then we don't score in the end," explained Carroll. "In this game we took good care of the ball and finished with some easy layups."

The Wolves continued to outscore the Trojans for the rest of the game, ending with a final score of 65-32.

Leading the team was Ella Stanton with a crushing 22 points and Addison Demaret with 17 points. Stanton also had 11 rebounds, along with Jayla Braden and Addison Demaret with five assists and Braden with nine steals.

"I thought as a team we were right on target and played good defense," added Coach Carroll.

The ladies are going to continue working hard at practice and are working on some new offensive moves. They want to quickly get the ball down to the basket and score.

On Friday, they will travel to play the Riverton Wolverines and Saturday they will head to Cody to play the Broncs.
