Lady Wolves conquer Star Valley at home

It was an exciting Saturday for the Lady Wolves when they won another conference game. The ladies conquered the Star Valley Braves with a final score of 53-38, in an intense game, bringing Green River to a 3-0 conference record.

The girls came out slow at the beginning of the game, trading baskets and turnovers, but they picked up momentum by the next quarter. During the second quarter Green River got Star Valley to turn the ball over more and they had really great ball movement in offense. The girls stayed open and moved the ball down the court, "having some of the best shots we've taken as far as the team is concerned," according to Head Coach Rick Carroll.

He feels they are rebounding well but still need to work on offensive rebounds. As a team they did a much better job of not fouling the other team, and they are moving their feet better and not reaching.

"We dictated the tempo of the game with our press and made them go a little faster than they wanted to," said Carroll.

Leading the team was Ella Stanton with 15 points and 12 rebounds, along with Jayla Braden with four assists and six steals. Brianna Strauss made 12 points, while Jayla Braden and Isabel Vasco both made 11 points, helping the Lady Wolves to their victory.

"I was pretty pleased with the way we played in general," said Carroll.

Green River is ranked number one in the state for rebounding while they sit ninth for defense, scoring and shooting.

The Lady Wolves will host a game against the Rock Springs Tigers today at 5:30 p.m. in the main gym. Rivalry games are always intense, and Carroll says you can't predict what's going to happen in these games. He looks forward to playing Rock Springs at home and says, "it's always a big deal to try and win these games."

The Blood Drive winner announcement will be immediately following the game. The Lady Wolves will play another game at home on Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Kelly Walsh Trojans.
