Boys soccer sees mixed week

The Green River High School varsity boys soccer team split their games last week, taking a 3-0 loss in Rock Springs, turning around and winning their rematch against the Evanston Red Devils 1-0 Friday.

The win Friday was accomplished by a late-game goal scored by Brett Stanton.

Head coach Jorge Salsedo said the boys are reacting more on the field and have turned around from where they were earlier in the season. Right now, Salcedo and the coaching staff are working to help the Wolves have a better control of the game through both the offensive and defensive sides of the game.

Salsedo said two players have recently stepped up for the team, Jake Findlow and Dusten Berg. He said Berg didn’t see a lot of field time early in the season, but has grown into being a much more skilled player. For Findlow, Salcedo said he is patient with his playtime and will go in and deliver when he needs to.

The Wolves will have their final conference games of the season at the end of the week. The Wolves will take on Kelly Walsh Friday at 5 p.m., then Natrona County High School Saturday at noon. In their last meetings in Green River, The Wolves took a 3-1 loss against Kelly Walsh, but defeated Natrona 4-1.

Following those games, the Wolves will compete in the regional soccer tournament in Jackson next week.
