New head coach hired for girls soccer team

A new head coach will take over the Green River High School Lady Wolves soccer program after former head coach Chris Nielsen stepped down from the position in May.

Matt Robles was announced as the new coach in a press release issued Tuesday. He currently works for the Sweetwater County School District No. 2 as a member of its maintenance and grounds crew.

Robles is a 2004 GRHS graduate who was an assistant coach for the Western Wyoming Community College Men's Soccer Team from 2006-2007 and 2011-2016. He also was a youth soccer club coach from 2008-2011, coaching one team to a state championship.

During his tenure at Western, he helped coach the men's soccer team to a Region 9 NJCAA championship, a second-place finish at the NJCAA District Tournament and an eighth-place finish at the NJCAA National Championships. He was selected by the NJCAA as an Assistant Coach of the Year while at WWCC.

A former player, Robles was a team captain for the Wolves and a member of the Olympic Development Program Team while in high school. He later played for both Western and Laramie County Community College, earning a Region 9 All-Conference Player selection.
