Track team impresses at home

On another chilly windy spring day, Green River hosted a a large group of high schools Friday, many they have been competing with throughout season. The larger schools included neighboring Rock Springs, Evanston, Jackson, Riverton and Lander. The smaller schools were Mountain View, Kemmerer, Lyman, Pinedale, Big Piney, Little Snake River and Manila, Utah.

There were more than 110 competitors in some of the individual events and the wind and the cold caused many of the times and distances to be just a little off many of the competitors previous bests.

One notable exception and the top finish for the Green River track team was the first place finish in the high jump by junior, Hayden Roberts who earned a personal best 6-04. Roberts also took second in the 110-meter hurdles in his best time of the year in 16.04 and third in the 300-meter hurdles also in his fastest time this season in 43.88.

The other triple event placer for the boys was freshman Christopher Wilson,who finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal record of 17.59, eighth in the 300-meter hurdles at 47.30 and earned a second place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 41.01. The other multiple winner for the boys, scoring points in two events, was senior Trevor Brangham.

He took third in the triple jump with a leap of 40.01 and earned seventh place with a personal record of 19-04.25.

The other two Wolves finishing in the top eight were senior throwers. Jacob Martinez took fifth in the discus with a throw of 138.01, followed by teammate Cole Murray placing seventh at 134.04.

Top eight finishers scoring team points for the Lady Wolves were led by freshman Madison Murdock, who finished second in the 3,200-meter run in 13:37.73 and forth in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal record of 55.22.

Others scoring points were senior Liberty Ferrell, who took seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in 56,86, sophomore Autumn Casey who placed sixth in the high jump with a personal record of 4-8 and junior Kalea Gibson, who took second in the high jump at 5-0.

There were many other performers who improved their best times and/or distances on the season despite the cold and wind. Head track coach Dan Hansen was once again pleased with the effort and improvement of so many of the Wolves athletes.

Next up for the Wolves is a junior varsity meet in Pinedale this Friday, before traveling Saturday for a varsity meet in Riverton.
