Red Feather owner Fred Trujillo recalls how he felt Sunday morning when he discovered the long-running business on Flaming Gorge Way had been burglarized.
“Violated,” he said. “Someone just breaking into your property.”
He said the monetary loss wasn’t important to him, just the sense that someone was desperate enough to break in and steal money.
The alcohol behind the bar and in the adjoining package liquor shop hadn’t been touched.
Trujillo said he couldn’t discuss any specifics or the amount stolen at the request of the Green River Police Department, which is investigating the incident. However, it hasn’t been the only bar targeted.
Two weeks ago, the Ponderosa Bar on Railroad Avenue was the scene of an attempted burglary when someone had tried to pry the back door open.
Susan Dickinson, the bar’s owner, said the break-in occurred at 5:25 a.m., Jan. 13. She was contacted by the alarm company who then sent police officers to the building.
“They were really fast,” she said of the GRPD.
She said the attempted thieves used a crow bar to pry the door open, but the alarm scared them off.
Dickinson believes the thieves were seeking money from the Cowboy Skill Games machines in her bar, which are slot machine-like terminals people can wager on games of skill.
The GRPD did not provide additional information regarding the incidents as of press time.
