Girls win 2 at Flaming Gorge Classic

The Lady Wolves are riding high after a winning weekend at the Flaming Gorge Classic.

The Lady Wolves beat back a late-game rally from Gillette High School Friday, earning a 44-42 win. Saturday afternoon, The Lady Wolves came away with a decisive victory over Kelly Walsh 57-37.

Head girls basketball coach Rick Carroll said he was pleased with how the Lady Wolves played throughout the weekend. He was especially happy with how well the girls rebounded while taking on Gillette Friday night.

"They throw up a lot of threes," Carroll said. "We didn't want them to get a lot of second shots."

Carroll said the girls still struggle in shooting accuracy, saying their defensive strengths and the Lady Wolves' opportunities from the free throw line benefitted them throughout the night.

"It was a good, hard- fought game," Carroll said.

By the end of the weekend, Carroll said he could tell the girls were playing tired after Friday night because the Lady Wolves were pitting seven players against a rotation of 10 from Gillette.

However, despite that exhaustion,, the Lady Wolves were able to come through in their next game against Kelly Walsh, ending that meeting with a 20-point lead.

As the Christmas break begins, Carroll said he intends to have the Lady Wolves work on basic skills, including shooting, dribbling and passing.

Carroll and his coaching staff will be working to get the Lady Wolves ready for their next tournament in Cheyenne Jan. 8-9, where they're scheduled to take on Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central over the course of two nights.
