New business education series launches in 2021

A coalition between the Sweetwater Economic Development Coalition, Western Wyoming Community College and the Beech Creative Group will provide a free virtual business education series for county businesses starting in January.

The educational series, titled The Sweetwater Virtual Business Lounge aims to provide businesses with information and tips to improve local businesses. Attendees will register for 30-minute programs with knowledgeable presenters discussing monthly topics. Registration for the first program, “Tips for Surviving Your 2020 Taxes” starts Dec. 10, with that program taking place Jan. 12. A registration link can be found on the program’s Facebook page, Sweetwater Virtual Business Lounge.

“SEDC has a keen interest in developing our local economy. While this often is construed as bringing new businesses to the area, it really starts with supporting the businesses and industry that already call Sweetwater County home,” Devon Brubaker, the SEDC’s chairman said in a press release. “This innovative program will provide invaluable resources to our local businesses as they work to adapt in these challenging times.”

The program is being offered in what the SEDC refers to as a “coffee break” format, which has led it to partner with local coffee shops. Those registering for the program also receive a discount code for Stellar Coffee in Green River. Rock Springs residents can redeem the code at Nell’s Coffee.

“We are giving our local small businesses the tools to help them be successful, also while working with the two locally owned businesses to help promote the new program,” Kayla McDonald, economic development specialist for the SEDC said in a press release.
