House burns on Idaho Street

An early morning house fire Saturday claimed the life of a Green River woman and resulted in another man being sent to Utah for treatment.

Assistant Fire Chief Larry Erdmann said the Green River Fire Department received the emergency call at about 5 a.m. and responded to 1610 Idaho Street. According to information provided by the Green River Police Department, officers met with three juveniles that had escaped the house and assisted in the rescue of a man still inside the home. Erdmann said firefighters focused on the portion of the home where a woman was located to keep the fire from spreading into that room. After gaining access to the room, firefighters recovered the woman from the home, then focused on the fire. According to Sweetwater County Coroner Dale Majhanovich, the woman's name is Elizabeth Andrews. Elizabeth's husband, Travis, was taken to a hospital in Utah according to a social media post on a public fundraising page for the family.

"People are more important than property," Erdmann said. "Once the victim was recovered, the fire was out about an hour into it."

Overall, Erdmann said two fire trucks and the department's aerial platform truck, along with an estimated 28 firefighters, responded to the fire. The American Red Cross of Wyoming provided assistance to the Andrews family. In a news release issued Saturday evening, the organization stated it was providing for lodging and other immediate needs the family had. Donations to the family are being accepted through an account at Trona Valley Federal Credit Union under an account called the Andrews Family Fund. A digital silent auction has been established to benefit the family on Facebook through a page titled Silent Auction for Elizabeth Andrews & Family.
