Our View: The outdoors are waiting, pandemic or not

We’ve had some beautiful weather in southwestern Wyoming over the past week.

The blue skies, warm temperatures and the greenery sprouting everywhere is enough to make someone forget about work and the ever-present COVID-19 pandemic to enjoy a day surrounded by nature.

Sweetwater County has a lot of beautiful vistas and outdoor adventures waiting for residents just outside of town. Enjoying the outdoor opportunities afforded to us is the perfect way to relax after a very odd two-month period of social distancing.

A short weekend camping trip at the Flaming Gorge Reservoir or at Fontenelle is a great way to recharge and relax. A day drive along the Wild Horse Canyon Loop Tour or an afternoon bicycling journey through the Wilkins Peak Trail System can help ease tensions the pandemic has brought about.

The Green River itself offers a variety of activities almost at our doorsteps. Fishing, kayaking, even surfing as our front page photo depicts, can be done from Green River and is a short walk for nearly anyone’s home.

While we won’t have a Flaming Gorge Days or the usual spectacle of Wyoming’s Big Show to look forward to, but that doesn’t mean residents should expect a dead summer.

Residents can enjoy a wide variety of activities in Green River and Sweetwater County as a whole. Pack a lunch, fuel up and go adventuring.
