Spring sports suspended to April 20

Spring activities have been suspended until April 20 according to the Wyoming High School Athletics Association.

This move follows an extended school closure order from Gov. Mark Gordon and the Wyoming Department of Health.

“Due to the continuing influence of COVID-19 we are not able to predict when it will be safe to resume spring sports. We will continue to be guided by the Government of Wyoming, including the Wyoming Department of Health and the State Department of Education,” a release from the WHSAA states.

Initially, activities were cancelled until April 6, coinciding with the statewide closure of schools as part of a coronavirus response initiated by the WDH and Gordon.

However, as social distancing guidelines have been extended to April 30 by the federal government, it’s possible another extension to the state’s restrictions could be announced.

With it would come another extension of the school closures and the spring activities suspension.

“A decision on that has not yet been made,” Kim Deti, with the WDH said Tuesday.
