Coronavirus impacts Green River

Golden Hour, libraries close

The impacts of coronavirus have hit home as several closures related to limiting the spread of the illness were announced last week.

Aside from schools throughout Green River, Golden Hour Senior Center and the Sweetwater County Library System have also announced they would close until further notice. Jackie Grubb, executive director of GHSC said their closures started Monday. She said the home delivery meal program will continue to function and GRHS is offering a drive-through meal service to people who normally eat at the center.

“We’re dealing with the most vulnerable population -- senior citizens,” Grubb said.

In a release issued Monday, the library system announced it and the Community Fine Arts Center in Rock Springs would close Monday to better determine ways to provide library access to its services. An update about future services is planned to be released Monday evening.

“Patrons are encouraged to check out and enjoy the library’s digital content during the closure. Find information about ebooks, digital audiobooks, and streaming movies here https://www.sweetwaterlibraries.com/ebooks_movies.php,” the release states.

The Green River Recreation Center has also announced a closure, suspending leisure programs, sports, swim lessons and other activities until further notice.

Cristy Pelhm, director of the Sweetwater County Child Developmental Center, announced it would close as well, following the school district’s March 16-April 3 schedule. In a Facebook post, she said information about makeup days, daycare credits and staff information will be released as the center’s leadership makes decisions in the coming days.
