Wolves compete at Weber State meet

Green River High School’s indoor track team took a small contingent of athletes south this past weekend to compete with several Wyoming teams, including Rock Springs, Evanston, Star Valley, and Mountain View. They also competed against many teams from Idaho and Utah in another tune up for the Wyoming State Indoor High School Track Championships later this month and to give the competitors opportunities to compete at a high-level meet in preparation for the upcoming outdoor track season.

Top performances for both the girls and the boys, those finishing in the top half of their events included senior Mariyah Brady taking 30th out of 113 runners in the 55-meter dash in 7.92. She also took eighth out of 51 hurdlers in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.45.

Also finishing in the top half of two events for the Lady Wolves was junior Muriel Jones who took fifth out of 25 runners in the 3,200 meters with a time of 12:25.56 and 18th out of 70 runners in the 800-meter run in 2:36.25.

The other top performer for the girls, finishing 18th out of 42 throwers, was senior shot putter Alaina Maiers with a throw of 27-06.

For the boys, those finishing in the top half of their event were junior Tyler Killett taking 54th out of 129 sprinters in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.24 and freshman Nathan Stevens, who placed was 48th out of 101 runners in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:14.54.

Head coach Dan Hansen said he was pleased with the effort and improvement shown.
