Swimmers take 2nd at conference meet

The Lady Wolves swimming and diving team took second at conferences, while picking up another state qualifier.

The Green River High School Lady Wolves recently traveled to Laramie to take on seven other teams at conferences to take second.

Head coach Colleen Seiloff said she felt good about where the team placed saying they came in right behind Laramie, which is the top team in the state.

Going into conference competition, the Lady Wolves knew Laramie was going to be strong and the team to beat.

Seiloff said the Lady Wolves, despite being tired, did the best they could.

“I think the girls swam strong this weekend,” Seiloff said.

The swimmers are right where they need to be at this time in the season. Seiloff said the 13 swimmers who qualified for State are preparing for that competition, while a few were still doing their best to try and qualify for State at the last-chance meet, which took place in Green River today. For the rest of the swimmers, conferences was their last swim of the year.

Adrienne Merrick qualified for State while at conferences and Seiloff was excited. She said Merrick had a really good weekend and qualifying for State was her reward for her hard work.

Seiloff said two other team members stood out to her this weekend also. Amaya Spartz continues to improve every week, while Zella Maez made the top 12 in the 1-meter diving competition.

This weekend, the Lady Wolves do not have a meet on the schedule and Seiloff said they are going to take time to rest. They have been going nonstop all season long and they deserve to sleep in and take it easy. The rest won’t last long however, because the team will need to prepare for State, which will take place in Gillette Nov. 7-9.
