The Green River Cross Country team traveled to Soda Springs, Idaho, for the annual Cardinal Classic, which ended in one Lady Wolf taking a top 10 position at the meet.

Madison Yoak took eighth in the junior varsity division, finishing the 5,000-meter run in 22:00.51. Other Lady Wolves competing were Shelby Carson, 131st in junior varsity, in 27:52.06; Tayana Eychner, 195th in junior varsity, in 33:41.58; Jazmin Winn, 200th in varsity, in 33:55.75 and Heather Allison, 208th in junior varsity, in 36:02.85.

For the boys, Greg Sherwin was the top finisher, taking 59th in the varsity division with a time of 18:35.36.

He was followed closely by Hale Iwen, who took 60th in junior varsity at 20:27.31. Other Wolves competing in the event were Christion Worden, 118th in varsity, in 21:29.73; Jared Westenskow, 176th in varsity, in 23:51.13 and Troy Owens, 181st in varsity, in 25:13.16.

Head coach Craig Leavitt said he’s happy with how well the runners performed. He said Allison, Winn and Carson dropped time at the meet, while the freshmen boys continued to improve. Leavitt said the team’s freshman members are a strong group of runners, saying Iwen and other freshmen will develop into great runners.

The cross country team will travel to Star Valley for a pre-state invitational Saturday.

Leavitt said the meet allows the team a first chance to see the State cross country course. He said it will also give his runners a chance to see who they will compete against at State.
