Knights take on Cody in Sunday double header

The Green River Knights came away from Thursday’s double header against the Riverton Raiders with a win and a loss and now have their sights set on the Cody Cubs, another team head coach Benjamin Lail believes to be a tough challenge for his squad.

Against Riverton, the Knights came away with a 1-0 win in extra innings in the first game. That score came from Dallan Serrano after a hit from Dax Peterson. The Raiders made a comeback in the second game of the night however, with the game ending 12-4 in favor of the Raiders.

Regardless of the second game’s outcome, Lail said the team is where it needs to be at this point in the season and looks forward to Sunday’s double header against Cody. He said Cody has become the top team in the conference, with Green River remaining in second place. The games will also help determine where the Knights will be seeded in the upcoming state American Legion baseball tournament.

“If we keep it up, we will be seeded well,” he said.

Lail said his two aces, Ramsey Taliaferro and Joe Schultz, will pitch during the two Cody games. He said their concentration this week is focused squarely on preparing for Cody and looks forward to Sunday’s games.

“The season’s far from over,” he said.

The Sunday games take place at the Stratton Myers ballpark, starting at 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
