Wolves leave state soccer tourney winless

It wasn’t the way anyone on the Wolves soccer team wanted to end their State run in Jackson.

After two games, the Wolves’ season ended without a win. The Wolves took on Cheyenne East Thursday morning, falling 2-1 to the Thunderbirds. They then took on Kelly Walsh the following day in the consolation bracket. While the Wolves have had some success against the Trojans throughout the season, including a 1-0 win at Regionals a week prior, the Trojans ended the Wolves’ season 2-0.

Three Wolves were nominated of All-Conference honors this year. Erik Gwaltney, Chase Stoeger and Haden Counts made All Conference, while Gwaltney and Stoeger earned All-State recognition.

According to statistics maintained by Wyopreps.com, Stoeger was the fourth highest-scoring player in the 4A division with 11 individual goals, while Counts scored seven goals during the season. Counts led the conference in individual assists with eight credited to him during the season, with Gwaltney recording five and Stoeger earning three. While he did not earn All Conference or All-State recognition, goalkeeper Tyler Killett led the 4A division in individual saves, recording 143 throughout the season.

During the season, the Wolves scored 39 goals and allowed 34 to be scored on them.

The Wolves lose 10 seniors to graduation. Players graduating this year are Stoeger, Gwaltney, Counts, AJ Vergara, Levi Hren, Brent Harper, Nick Findlow, Kyle Ivie, Grant Cobb and Caleb Ragsdale.
