Faith Bartashnick readies herself for a discus attempt while competing in Rock Springs earlier this season. Bartashnick led the Lady Wolves' throwers in the shot put, while the team competed in Afton, taking 11th place.

Last Wednesday, during spring break, Green River took a very small group of competitors to the Star Valley High School track meet in Afton.

Green River's group consisted of eight girls and two boys and they competed with 11 other Southwest Wyoming high schools and one Idaho high school for the Dave Draney Invitational Track Meet.

Despite the small numbers, those who traveled during spring break got in some good competition and several recorded their best or close to their best results of the season.

In the 100-meter dash Liberty Ferrell took 22nd in 14.34, followed closely by Chatney Tirrell 23rd in 14.35 and Emmalee Skinner 54th in 15.30 in the field of 77 sprinters. Ferrell was the lone sprinter for the Lady Wolves in the 200-meter dash taking 18th in 29.71 in the field of 80 runners. Tirrell was the lone Green River entrant in the 400-meter, finishing 14th in 1:09.42 against 33 other runners.

Kaisa Arnell had the top finish of the day for Green River as the senior took second in the 3,200-meter run in 12.47.24. Skinner was the lone entrant for Green River in the 100-meter hurdles, taking 24th, while Liberty Ferrell took 12th in the 300- meter hurdles with Skinner finishing in 25th.

Ferrell improved her seasons best to 14.03.25 in the long jump by placing 14th out of 64 jumpers, while E. Skinner improved her seasons best in the triple jump at 28:10.25 when she took 22nd in the field of 44 jumpers.

In the throwing events, the same four Lady Wolves throwed in both the shot put and the discus.

Freshman Faith Bartashnick led the way in the shot put taking 11th with a throw of 30-3, followed by Alaina Maiers 26th, Modesta Rocha 47th and Morgan Reick 62nd. Maiers led in the discus, taking 21st with a throw of 82-4 followed by Bartashnick, Rocha and Reich.

For the Wolves, Devin Bobbitt was 49th in the field of 86 sprinters in the 100 meter in a time of 13.41 and also took 47th in the 1,000-meter run. Greg Sherwin took second in the 3,200-meter run in 11:20.86.

The track team should be back to full strength next week with the end of spring break and will have two meets coming up, one Friday in Pinedale before traveling Saturday to Morgan, Utah.
