The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.
In 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the House and the Senate and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on Thursday, May 5, 1988, designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer.
A program for National Day of Prayer was put together in Green River last year, 2018, and another program is in the works for this year.
It will be held on Thursday, May 2, at the Golden Hour Senior Center at 7 p.m.
There will be music, scriptures, speakers and will last for less than an hour. There will be light refreshments served after the program.
This program is for anyone who has prayer as part of their lives or are seeking prayers for their lives. People of all faiths are welcome to attend. The evening will include prayer for our country, community and families.
Last year, there were people from several different backgrounds that participated in our program and we hope to add to our numbers this year.
