Team improves at Rock Springs meet

The Green River Wolves track team competed in Rock Springs at the Ted Schroeder Meet of Hope, competing against 12 other teams.

There were a number of fine performances on the day as many of the Wolves set their personal best times or distances.

In the girls 100 meters, all of the Lady Wolves finished in personal record time. They were led by junior Mariyah Brady taking fourth in 13.17, followed by senior Erika Wilson in ninth place in 13.72, sophomore Jacque Vaquera at 11th in 13.84, freshman Sara Wilson at 23rd, freshman Karli Rasmussen at 30th and sophomore McKenzie Clark in 47th out of a field of 63 sprinters.

Clark was the Lady Wolves’ lone entry in the 200 meters, taking 35th in the field of 45 sprinters. In the 400 meters, Angie Mackinnon led three Green River sprinters as she took fourth, followed by Kalea Gibson in eighth and Ashley Jensen in 13th, all of whom set a personal record in the event.

In the 800 meters, senior Kaisa Arnell led the way in fourth place, followed by freshman Madison Yoak, Gibson in seventh and senior Ashley Jensen in 13th. Arnell also took fourth in the 1,600 meters, followed closely by Yoak in fifth place in her seasons best of 6:03.54.

In the girls 100-meter hurdles, the first three placers for the Lady Wolves had their personal record. They were led by Brady taking third in 16.70, followed by freshman Lillian Munoz in fifth in 17.61, freshman Adee Beardsley at 20th in 19.19 and McKenzie Clark at 35th in 22.06. Munoz led the way in the 300-meter hurdles by taking fifth in 51.88, followed by sophomore Liberty Ferrell at 10th in 53.32 and freshman Sara Wilson at 20th in 56.35.

The girls 4x100-meter relay team took second in the field of nine teams and consisted of Brady, Wilson, Chatney Tirrell and Vaquera. The 4x400 meter team took fourth out of five teams with Tirrell, Ferrell, Munoz and Vaquera. In the 4x800-meter relay, the Lady Wolves took first with Yoak, Arnell, Gibson and Mackinnon competing. The Lady Wolves 4x1, 800-meter sprint medley relay team finished 6th.

In the field events, Erika Wilson led the way in the high jump by improving her season best to 5-4, winning the event. She was followed by Gibson in sixth at 4-.06 and Sara Wilson in ninth in 4-.02.

Brady led for the girls in the long jump, taking sixth at 15-.07, followed by Ferrell in 16th at 13-11 and Clark in 36th at 11-1/2. Sara Wilson led in the triple jump for Green River taking 16 at 27-11, followed by Gibson in 19th at 27-5 1/2.

In the throws, freshman Faith Bartashnick took sixth in the shot put, close to her season best at 31-.01, followed by Kim Peterson, Alaina Maiers, Natalie White, Olivia Prieto, Karli Rasmussen, Cherylann Moritz and Katie Setzer in 20th, 21st, 24th, 25th 35th and 40th respectively.

The same group was entered in the discus event, with Kim Peterson taking sixth, followed by Maiers, White, Bartashnick, Prieto, Moritz, Morgan Reicker and Setzer.

For the boys, sophomore Marcos Molina ran his personal best in the 100, to finish second in 11.19, followed by freshman Breyden Moorman at ninth in 11.77 and sophomore Seth White in 10th place in 11.82. The top three were followed by Josh Cudney, Hayden Roberts, Austin Fox, Max Orr, Paxton Castillion, Russell Ferrell and Araya Finley, with nine out of 10 runners exceeding their personal best.

Molina came back to win the 200 in 23.18, followed again by Moorman, Orr, Finley and Ferrell, with four of five in personal best times.

The 400 had Orr, Castillion and freshman Alex Hlad placing 21st, 26th and 30th respectively in the field of 44.

Valerio pulled off an impressive triple, winning the 800 the 1,600 and the 3,200. Drew Gibson took second in the 800 and third in the 1,600 runs. Logan Reichel was the third finisher for the Wolves in both runs, taking ninth and eighth respectively and Greg Sherwin was the forth finisher, taking 18th and 16th in the two events.

Other finishers for the Wolves in the 800 were Kaden Gailey in 24th, Devin Bobbitt in 27th, Adam Robinson in 30th, Evin Hanson in 37th and Tyler Luth 39th out of a field of 45. In the 1,600, following Sherwin were Jared Westenskow in 24th Bobbitt in 25th, Hlad in 31st, Robinson in 40th and Tyler Luth in 45th. There were only three runners for Green River in the 3,200 with Hanson finishing seventh and Westenskow taking eighth.

Hayden Roberts freshman took eighth in the 110 hurdles, while Fox was the top Wolf in the 300-meter hurdles, taking 13th.

In the 4x100 relay, the Wolves finished in the top spot with a time of 45.61 with the team of Alex Marius, Isaac Ruiz, Cudney and Molina. The 4x400 relay team took third out of 10 teams with Ruiz, Cudney, Moorman and Valerio, while the Wolves’ B team took fifth. The 4x800 team of Hlad, Gailey, Reichel and Sherwin took fifth.

The high jump saw all three competitors for the Wolves improve on their personal records, led by Roberts clearing 5-10 for third, followed by Marius at fifth at 5-8 and Fox taking 12th at 5-2.

The long jump saw two Wolves clear 19 feet, led by Isaac Ruiz taking third at 19-5.50, and Josh Cudney finishing eighth at 19-.02, followed by Marius at 18-1 and Finley at 13-.05.

In the triple jump, Ruiz again led the way going 40-.02, followed by Marius at 38-.09.

Jacob Martin led the boys in the shot put taking seventh at 40-.02, followed by Cole Murray, Abraham Hill, Braden Cantrell and Ty Alcorn. The discus was led by David Martinez taking sixth at 127-10 followed closely by Jacob Martinez in seventh at 126-05, with Cole Murray also over 100 feet at 108-06, followed by Hill, Cantrell and Alcorn.

Coach Dan Hansen was very pleased with the large number of personal bests by both the girls and the boys and is looking forward to continuing that progress at the Roy Peck Invitational in Riverton Saturday.
