Fund-raising bake sale kicks off Easter

While most were out enjoying the nice weather this weekend, employees and volunteers at the Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center were busy baking goodies for its sale.

On Monday, tables were filled with homemade goodies. From cookies and cakes to breads and popcorn balls. There was just about something for everyone, even for those with the slightest sweet tooth.

Heidi Schuh, CRRC activities director and volunteer coordinator, said because Easter is so late this year, the center felt the need to do something to fill the gap.

"We spent the weekend baking," she said. "It's kicking off Easter."

All of the proceeds raised through the donation-only bake sale will go into the resident's activity fund. This helps pay for bigger trips such as the annual fishing trip and Sweetwater County Fair adventure. Those trips require funding and this is a way for the center to raise some money.

Those who weren't able to make it to the bake sale in person were offered the opportunity to purchase a basket full of goodies for their place of employment for $40.

During the bake sale, visitors and CRRC and Villa residents could purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win baskets filled with various items or try to win a girl's or boy's bike.

"The bikes are always a big one," she said.

Despite all several tables filled with baskets, Schuh said they weren't as many.

"We actually didn't get us many donations as we usually do," Schuh said. "We spent some of our own money, which we are confident we will get a return on."

The baskets and bikes will be given away at the center's annual Easter Carnival, which is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 19. Schuh said residents are more than welcome to stop by during regular business hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to purchase tickets. They are hoping that by having the tickets available this early, they will raise more money.
