Wolves impress at Natrona meet

Heading into the second outdoor track meet of the season, the Green River Wolves fielded a much larger and more experienced track team than their first meet.

Green River competed at the Natrona Invitational in Casper with 18 other Wyoming teams this past weekend.

Girls results

In the 100 meter dash, finishing in the top third of the field of 102 sprinters for the Lady Wolves were Mariyah Brady in 13th at 13.98, Erika Wilson in 18th at 14.21, Lillian Munoz in 19th at 14.25, Chatney Tirrell in 28th at 14.47 and Liberty Ferrell in 30th at 14.53. They were followed by Addee Beardsley, Karli Rasmussen, Mckenzie Clark and Jadin Magana.

The leaders in the 200-meter dash for the Wolves, in the top third out of 89 sprinters, were Wilson in 14th at 29.53, Munoz in 16th at 29.64, Ferrell in 19th at 29.89, followed by Tirrell, Beardsley, Brady and Magana.

The 400-meter dash saw just two competitors for the Lady Wolves, led by Tirrell in 10th place at 1:10.94, followed by Ashley Jensen in 21st at 1:19.34.

In the middle distance run, Kaisa Arnell led in the 800 meters, taking 13th in the field of 50 runners, followed by Madison Yoak, Angie Mackinon, Kaelea Gibson and Jensen.

In the 1,600-meter run the results were similar for Green River with Arnell the top finisher for Green River in 6:00.06, followed by Yoak, Mackinon and Gibson.

In the 100-meter, hurdles Brady finished in the top eight to score points for the girls, taking third place at 16.96, followed by Munoz in seventh and Beardsley in 19th.

Munoz led the way in the 300-meter hurdles for Green River, taking 10th in 52.90, followed by Ferrell in 25th place.

Green River's 4X800-meter relay team of Mackinon, Jensen, Yoak and Arnell took third in 11:56.66.

In the field events, the girls had their top performance in the high jump as senior Erika Wilson won the event clearing 5 .2, followed by Gibson in 15th and Sara Wilson in 18th, placing out of 34 jumpers.

Green River had seven competitors in the long jump, lead by Brady earning team points finishing eighth at 14.08.50, with Ferrell jumping 13.10 for 13th, followed by Beardsley, Yoak, Clark and Magana.

The only competitor for the Lady Wolves in the triple jump was Gibson, who jumped 28.03.75 for 19th place.

In a large field of 97 throwers in the shot put, freshman Faith Bartashnick led the way for the 10 Wolves throwers taking 10th with a throw of 31.03.50. Also finishing in the top third was Alexis Martin, taking 32nd in 27.00.50, followed by Alaina Maiers, Cherylynn Moritz, Natalie White, Modesta Rocha, Kim Peterson, Karli Rasmussen, Olivia Prieto and Addyson Neff.

Peterson led the way in the discus, scoring team points by finishing sixth with a throw of 98., followed by Bartashnick, Martin, Rocha, White, Prieto, Neff, and Moritz.

Boys results

In the largest field of competitors for the Wolves, Alex Marius was the top finisher in the 100, out of 12 Green River sprinters in the field of 111, taking 17th in 12.17, followed by Dylan Taylor, Isaac Ruiz, Josh Cudney, Tommy Clark, Hayden Roberts, Max Orr, Paxton Castillion, Araya Finley, Jarrod Shoemaker and Russell Ferrell.

Taylor led the way for the Wolves in 40th place in the 200, followed by Cudney, Clark, Hayden, Orr, Castillion, Devin Bobbitt, Shoemaker, Finley and Ferrell.

In the 400, Ruiz led the way finishing sixth to score team points in 55.99, followed by Cudney also scoring team points in eighth place in 57.73. They were followed by Taylor, Logan Reichl, Austin Fox, Alex Hlad, Orr, Tommy Clark, Finley and Bobbitt.

The 800 saw another top finish for the Wolves as Marcos Valerio took third to lead the Wolves in 2:04.73, followed by Reichel, Caleb Rogers, Bobbitt and Tyler Luth.

Valerio led the entire field of 67 runners in the 1,600, taking first place in 4:42.57, followed by Drew Gibson, Greg Sherwin, Jared Westenskow, Evin Hansen, Rogers, Adam Robinson and Luth.

In the 3,200-meter run Greg Sherwin finished in the top eight to score team points, taking fifth place in 11:28.24, followed by Westenskow and Hansen.

The high jump saw two Green River jumpers clear 5-6 with Alex Marius and Hayden Roberts and two clearing 5-4, by Castillion and Fox.

The long jumpers were led by Ruiz for Green River with a jump of 18-07 for 13th place, followed by Marius, Clark, Cudney and Finely. Ruiz also led the Wolves in the triple jump going 40 3/4 for fourth place followed by Marius.

For the throwers, David Martinez led the way at 39 to take 15th, followed by Jacob Martinez, Cole Murray, Abraham Hill, Braden Cantrell and Ty Alcorn.

In the discus, the Wolves were led by Jacob Martinez with a good early season throw, earning him a fourth-place finish at 129.07, followed by D. Martinez, Murray, Cantrell, Alcorn, Ferrell, and Shoemaker.

The team scoring allowed the Lady Wolves to finish eighth out of 17 teams, while the boys took seventh out of 14 teams.

Highlights of the meet, according to head track coach Dan Hansen, included the fact that a number of Green River's competitors did especially well for an early-season meet, finishing in the top eight.

Among the top performances Hansen singled out for the girls were Wilson winning the long jump, Munoz and Brady placing in the hurdles and Brady also placing in the long jump.

For the boys, Hansen said Ruiz and Cudney did well in the 400, with Valerio in the running well in the 800 and winning the 1,600. He also was pleased with Gibson's performance in that race and Sherwin's performance in the 3,200, along with Roberts in the hurdles and J. Martinez's effort in the discus throw.

The Wolves will be back in action this weekend with a meet in Orem, Utah Saturday.
