Barbara Jean Leeper

Barbara Jean Leeper, 64, passed away March 12, 2019, at her home in Rock Springs, surrounded by her family. She was a lifelong resident of Rock Springs.

Leeper was born Oct. 11, 1954, in Rock Springs, the daughter of Ralph and Angelina Portillo.

She graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1972 and obtained two associate degrees from Western Wyoming Community College in the 1990s.

Barbara married Howard Leeper, June 24, 1989, in Rock Springs.

Barbara worked in the family business, Bitter Creek Consulting, Inc., as the accountant and bookkeeper for the past 15 years.

She was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Community.

Barbara enjoyed spending time with friends and family, traveling, gambling trips to Wendover, Nev., Mesquite, Nev., and Las Vegas, and spending time at the family cabin. She especially enjoyed her time playing in the VNEA pool leagues before health issues forced her to quit.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Leeper; two sons, Carl Bennett (Joanna) and Steven Bennett (Amanda); one brother, Ralph Portillo (Fidelis); three sisters, Josephine Portillo, Karen Petty (Ken) and Sharon Seymour (Dave), all of Rock Springs. She has eight grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as Rascal, her black lab.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister-in-law, Eloisa Portillo (Ralph); one niece, Ashley Fletcher and one nephew, Kevin Fletcher.

Memorial services took place Wednesday.
