Swim team heads to State

With state taking place this week, the Wolves swimming and diving team was happy to qualify two more.

Last week, the team competed in Rock Springs Wednesday night and a second time in Green River Thursday for its last chance meet.

Head coach Colleen Seiloff said she was hoping a couple more swimmers who were close to qualifying would do so in front of a home crowd.

Two swimmers, sophomores Sam Quick and Araya Finley, took advantage of those meets and qualified for state. They join seniors Michael Richmond, Dean Lyon and Gabe Davis, junior Trevor Moser, sophomores Devin Bobbitt, Jason Richmond, Elijah Kraft, Jonathan Clark and freshman diver Kayson Snow.

The alternates selected to go to state are senior Dylan Strange, junior Dade Lucero and sophomores Jake Probst and Levi Westburg.

Seiloff said not only will the alternates fill in if someone gets sicks, but they may swim in the relays.

The team would like to place in the top three at state, however there are a lot of teams that are highly competitive. She said they are just going to go to Gillette and do the best they can at state just like they have done all season long.

"It's going to be tough, but it's doable," Seiloff said about a top three finish.

The team is excited to have a diver going to state to represent Green River. She said the team has had great divers in the past and is hoping this is the beginning of that return.

Snow, a freshman, is the only diver to qualify. She said with three more years left to compete, he'll only get better each year.

"He's really improved a lot and it's been fun watching him," she said.

On Thursday and Friday the team will attend the state tournament, which will take place in Gillette. They are excited to see what they can do and celebrate their accomplishments. She said the four seniors, M. Richmond, Lyon, Davis and Strange have done such a great job mentoring the underclassmen and that makes a difference.
