Man injured by WYDOT plow

A man was injured after being hit by a Wyoming Department of Transportation snow plow last week.

According to Sgt. Jeremy Beck of the Wyoming Highway Patrol, a semi had gotten stuck on Wyoming 530, 9 miles south of Green River Monday morning. The truck was headed northbound and stuck in the southbound lane during a time when WYDOT had issued a no unnecessary travel restriction on the highway. The driver was outside his truck and placing chains on the tires with the help of another motorist who had stopped to assist.

A WYDOT plow approached the scene on the southbound lane. According to Beck, the plow was removing between 8-12 inches of snow as it approached. Beck said the driver announced he would drop sand in front of the semi to give it more traction.

Beck said the plow driver retracted the wing plow and began maneuvering past the semi at a low speed.

Beck said as the plow driver did this, the semi driver was pinned between the wing plow and the sleeper cab of his truck.

“The plow did not hit the truck,” Beck said.

Beck said the plow driver was unaware he injured the semi driver until a motorist stopped him down the road and informed him. Emergency responders transported the truck driver to the hospital.
