Boys basketball defeats Jackson, readies for Star Valley

A chance to play at home greatly benefited the Wolves when taking on the Jackson Hole Broncs Saturday.

While an away game against Evanston didn’t end their way, losing 59-52 in a close game against the Red Devils, the Wolves came away with a huge victory, beating Jackson 71-44. For head coach Laurie Ivie, the chance to play at home was a great change of pace for her team.

“We’ve been on the road a ton since the beginning of the season,” Ivie said. “It was so nice to be home and not to be traveling.”

Ivie said the boys started slow against the Broncs, but turned up the pressure after the second quarter, shooting and rebounding the ball well.

“All 12 varsity players scored in the Jackson game,” she said.

Of her players, Ivie said Chase Stoeger and Braxton Yeager have constantly lead in scoring and rebounding. However, while those players have been top players for the Wolves in those areas, Ivie said four other seniors have proven themselves reliable and have had big games: Matthew Seymour, Grant Cobb, Haden Counts and Kyle Ivie.

She said those four have contributed on both ends of the court throughout the season.

“These kids have played together for years and play solid team basketball,” Ivie said. “All players fulfill whatever role they are asked to play each game and they are reliable and dependable in filling those roles.”

The Wolves will hit the road again and travel to Star Valley Saturday, but will face their rivals from Rock Springs Jan. 31 at home.
