Program checks on GR residents

On frigid, snowy days like Monday and Tuesday, a program at Golden Hour Senior Center helps check on homebound residents to ensure they’re safe.

The home delivered meals program at the center provides 82 seniors in the Green River and Jamestown areas with hot meals. According to Melynda Lenling, program coordinator, they didn’t have problems delivering meals Tuesday, despite snow-covered residential streets.

“We didn’t have any challenges,” she said.

On a day where Sweetwater County School District No. 2 called a snow day because of concerns about residential roads and bus safety, 20 volunteers delivered their meals and checked up on residents. Lenling said the volunteers also check if the people they visit have running water and heat at their homes. Lenling said volunteers report back to the senior center if residents have needs not being met, where other programs can provide assistance to those residents.

“We keep an eye on our patrons,” she said.
