Changes coming to Star

Changes are coming to the Green River Star, and we’re definitely excited about what the future holds.

The change readers will likely notice this week is new titles given to Stephanie Thompson and myself. Starting this week, I will now serve as the Green River Star’s publisher, while Stephanie will be the newspaper’s chief editor.

It brings me great joy to announce Thompson as the Star’s new editor and to see her climb as my own career progresses. She has always been a wealth of information and a steadfast believer in the responsibility journalists have to the communities they serve, as well as the duty we have in being the community’s watchdog. Stephanie previously served as president of the Wyoming Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, currently is a member of the Sweetwater County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees and is an active member of her church. She is also the first professional journalist I worked under, being assigned as her summer intern at the Rock Springs Daily Rocket-Miner years ago.

Another exciting development for the newspaper is our new membership in the Wyoming News Exchange.

The service allows Wyoming’s newspapers to share news articles and photos amongst one another, giving the newspapers a better opportunity to provide coverage of events occurring throughout the state.

Wyoming, despite the distances separating its towns and cities, is a close-knit state and we’re excited to provide our readers important information about what’s happening in Kemmerer, Cody, Evanston and other places within the Cowboy State.

Immediately, these changes won’t impact anything seen in the newspaper.

Even as we get accustomed to our new roles, it won’t hinder us from providing the unique perspective into life and politics in Sweetwater County that only we can provide.
