Swimmers take 1st in Rock Springs

Prior to the Christmas break, the Green River High School boys swim team attended the Rock Springs swim meet and came in first.

"The Rock Springs meet was pretty interesting. We were better than most of the teams there," diving and assistant coach Rick Barker said.

Two swimmers, Elijah Kraft and Dean Lyon both qualified in more events.

Even though the team finished in first place, Barker felt they swam a little off at the meet. He figured it was due to the mid-season blues and the swimmers getting ready for the Christmas break.

Barker said he also had the swimmers competing in events they usually don't compete in.

"It's nice to get a variety," Barker said.

He said the swimmers get tired of swimming the same events all season long. Prior to switching the swimmers around, Barker checked to see which teams were going to be at the meet. He then determined it wouldn't hurt the team to switch the swimmers around. The plan worked because the swimmers got to switch events and still took first.

After the Rock Springs meet, the swimmers had a few days off to celebrate Christmas, but they were back to practice Dec. 26 to prepare for a meet in Laramie, which took place Dec. 28-29.
